Review of BlackHat

For all my love for Chris Hemsworth I seriously did not like this movie- I try to like it, but couldn’t.

Many people blame it on the miscasting of Hemsworth as the elite hacker, as he’s too good looking. Most hackers are usually nerdy or we expect that. The tech nerds were probably anti-gorgeous-Hemsworth. Problem also because most of us first saw him as Thor & that’s pretty hard to erase from our minds as that character is just too damn iconic !

Too bad, he’s a decent actor but the weak & outdated scrip isn’t helping. Not forgetting the directing is pretty bad. And the ridiculous title that everyone hates & very little people understand.

Another big problem is the casting of too many Asians that the Americans never heard of in the important roles. Even I don’t like to see so many of them!!! It’s like rojak …lol… It’s obvious this movie is targeted at the Chinese market, but it’s not easy making a movie that “try” to appeal to both US & Chinese market, which end up appealing to no one. Besides I seriously don’t think Tang Wei is even that popular with the Chinese or Asian market. For one, none of my friends like her. All I know is that she got the press really interested after going nude in a movie ages ago & that’s it. Fans ??? I seriously  doubt there’s any substantial number. I don’t care for Tang Wei, thus the romantic scenes were all lost on me. Imagine those in the west who don’t even know her. Bad casting.

Wang Leehom, he’s nice & all, but just not charismatic enough plus he’s an unknown in the West. It’s obvious the Chinese don’t really care for these 2 actors, as there’s no support at the box office. Besides they could just down load illegally, for curiosity sake. That’s probably why the movie bombed globally & not only in the US. A good movie doesn’t need to have actors from every single movie market in order to be successful, Look at Lords of the Ring.
In the end it’s clear the director overestimated the appeal of my beloved Chris Hemsworth. Could Hemsworth just end up becoming only associated with the popular character (Thor )and fans abandon him after that franchise? Poor Thing !
